Ungewöhnlich, doch nicht selten ist die telepathische Wahrnehmung der eigenen 
Person Sie wird, wie jeder Einblick in das Numinose, von den Betroffenen gern

Zweiten Gesicht. Wenn Anna Karenina die Umstände ihres Todes mehr oder minder 
deutlich wie durch eine Nebelwand voraussieht, so ist das eher eine 
prophetische Ahnung - im Augenblick der Vernichtung wird sie durch 
Selbstbegegnung Realität.

Tolstoi dringt hier bis an die Zeitgrenze vor, ja blickt, wie auch im "Tod 
des Iwan Illjitsch", über sie hinweg. Der russischen Dichtung wurde um die 
Jahrhundertwende aus orthodoxen Klöstern noch ein Abschiedsgeschenk für die 
Kommenden gereicht - - - Wegzehrung für eine Durststrecke.

Es gibt Abschnitte, in denen die Literatur vikariiert. Je weniger der Autor 
sich darauf einläßt, desto besser für ihn und das Werk. Sonst wird er zum 
Hilfsprediger.

The telepathic perception of the own person is uncommon but not seldom. It 
tends to remain untold by the ones involved, like all insights into the 
numinous(1) - "things like that should actually not pass". The author, too, 
precedes only cautiously towards there. Fear for profanization is probably 
part of the reason.

While meeting oneself, the person sees itself from a distance and 
momentarily. Thus there is no action and here lies the difference of this 
vision from the Second Sight. As Anna Karenina foresees the circumstances of 
her death more ore less distinct like through a fog, it is more like a 
prophetic presentiment - in the instant of anihilation it becomes reality 
through the self-encounter.

Tolstoi advances closely up to the frontier of time, he even looks beyond it, 
like in _The Death of Ivan Illyich_ . Around the turn of the century, Russian

There are sections, when literature vicarizes. The less the author gets 
involved, the better for him and for the oevre. Otherwise he turns into an 
assistant-preacher.
