Die Selbstbegegnung hat Stufen; wenn es sehr still wird, kann die Person sich 
im Selbstgenuß auflösen. Das Wort stammt von Wieland; es meint die Stimmung, 
während der man, wie das Lied sagt, "sein selbst und der Welt" vergißt. Das 
Selbst entfernt sich, es kehrt zurück und findet sich wieder - es kommt zu 
sich: das Bild tritt in sein Spiegelbild ein.

Abrupt, als ob der Film zerisse, ist die Trennung in Lebensgefahr. Der 
Einzelne sieht sich aus der Entfernung auf dem Operationstisch oder bei einem 
Zusammenstoß im Verkehr. Wäre es ein Traum, so würde er sich fürchten, doch 
hier bleibt er unberührt wie der Photograph bei einer Aufnahme. Die Schere 
schneidet ihn nicht mehr.

Sollte er, kurz nachdem der Tod ihn gestreift hat, an einem Spiegel 
vorbeikommen, so wird er bemerken, daß sein Spiegelbild stärker geworden ist 
als er. Die Wahrnehmung wird vom Nachleuchten der Transzendenz gestört. So 
scheint auch das Land zu schwanken, wenn der Fuß nach stürmischer Seefahrt 
den Boden betritt.

There are various stages of the encounter with oneself; if it becomes very 
quiet the person might dissolve himself in self delight. The word was coined 
by Wieland, it means the mood in which, like the song says, one forgets 
"oneself and the world". The self leaves, then returns and finds himself 
again - he comes back to himself: the image enters the reflection.

In danger to life, the separation is abrupt, like as if the film tore. The 
individual sees himself from a distance lying on the surgeons table or in the 
middle of a traffic accident. Were it a dream, he would feel fear, instead he 
is untouched like a photographer taking a picture. The shears don't cut him 
anymore.

Should he come to pass a mirror shortly after having been touched by death, 
he will notice that his reflection will have grown stronger than himself. 
Perception is interferred by the afterglow of the transcendence. Alike, the 
ground seems to sway when stepping ashore after arriving from a stormy voyage 
at sea.

EJ continues his reference of the phenomena along the borderline of common 
reality and elaborates on what can be seen from this side - here forgetting 
oneself and near-death-experience. In our reality the shears cut, in the 
realm beyond they don't anymore, the dying person views his corpse bare of 
emotions but is as a person still existing. Actually the word _person_ 
includes this already, it means _the shining through_, i.e. that which shines 
through the body of the man or woman, what is behind, what the body stands 
for.
