I did not find much. Anyway, here is what I read in a French book: « Entretiens avec Ernst Jünger » by Julien Hervier, Arcades Gallimard, 1986. Page 42 : He (Ernst Jünger’s father) studied chemistry in Heidelberg and was an assistant of Victor Meyer. Page 43 : He (Ernst Jünger’s father) wanted to study chemistry. At that time, to study chemistry was a kind of adventure ; and my grand-father told him : « As far as I am concerned, you are free to go and study chemistry in Heidelberg, but on the condition you do some practical studies – for him chemistry did not had this practical value - ; you must take some examinations of pharmacist in order to have something solid to rely on. » Note : Viktor Meyer, Berlin 1848 – Heidelberg 1897, his researches were about density of vapour and organic chemistry. So, his father was a student in Heidelberg, and that is probably there he get his scar on the face, while being a member of a students corporation(?). Please let me know if you find more on that matter. Have a nice day. ===== Andre-Paul Itel apitel@yahoo.com Hic tamen hanc mecum potera requiescere noctem Fronde super viridi.
