Hier empfiehlt sich die Lektuere des grossen Kapitels ueber den Prometheus in den _Griechischen Mythen_ Friedrich Georgs. Prometheus ist kein Gott, obwohl er sich zuweilen als solchen ausgibt, doch gottaehnlich und goettlichen Ursprunges. Er ist auch kein eigentlicher Titan, hat vielmehr mit Zeus zu deren Baendigung gekaempft - doch wiederum mit den Titanen gegen den Olymp. Prometheus gilt als Bote und Vermittler zwischen den titanischen und goettlichen Welt. Vor allem ist er Freund der Menschen und um ihr irdisches Wohl besorgt. 'Es kommt jedwede Kunst dem Erdvolk von Prometheus her* (Aischylos). -------------------------------------------- Commentary It is to be noted that the Prometheus legend can be found in Nordic mythology to some extent in the Gestalt of Loke (or Lopt, 'the air traveller'). He is in Nordic mythology a very mysterious godlike personality. He is regarded as one of the Aesir (Ases) but seems to have been of giant heritage (the¨ Giants could to some extent be compared to the Titans of Greek mythology). The children of Loke are all of negative kind: the Midgard snake (see one of my recent contributions), the Fenris wolf and Hel. In raganroek he fights on the side of the Giants. Prometheus is a favourite of poets: Goethe, Schlegel, Herder, Byron and perhaps most well-known Sheley's 'Prometheus Unbound'. In Greek mythology and with EJ Prometheus is a much more positive personality than in the Nordic mythology.
