Don't know of any mentioning of _Heart of Darkness_ in EJs works, but there might well be one. As was mentioned by Olaf there is nothing on Conrad on Noack. Have checked a couple of other biographies but EJ once visited Angola, when it was still a part of Portugal (overseas territory). Quite possibly something might be found there. Conrad is mentioned by Bohrer, but it is the story _Outpost of Progress_. EJ is supposed to have commented on that book in _Strahlungen_ and the subject of the OoP is similar to HoD, only the first mentioned story is placed in Asia. My favourite latest, I think, edition of _Heart of Darkness_ was published in 1995 in Canada by Broadview Literary Texts with a fine commentary (editor D.C.R.A. Goonetilleke). Best greetings Bertil Haggman
