Hello,
Sorry John, to answer right the way in Italian to the previous messages. I will try then to translate it english, an english that is as poor as my writen italian. SOrry also for that.
I would like to add something about comparing today's "rebels" and EJ figure the Rebel. Drawing such a parallel is provocative, uselss and false.
Of course the Rebel and it's double, the Anarch, are coming from the heart of civilization. 2001 "rebels" are also coming from it.
WTC towers are a symbol of technique power. Destroying is meaningful for those belonging to the mauretanian side.
But 11/09 terrorism is obviously from this side. It's goals are purely "technique" : stock exchange crisis, use of mass media to terrorize the masses.
It's necessary to say that the Rebel/Anarch refuses the seductions of Technique.
In Eumeswil there is a very antipathic character (I don't remember his name. It's an opponent of Condor who hates society and power. Finally he explodes manipulating it's own bomb on the beach.
To my mind today's "rebels" are more of this kind. They are slaves of two deadful gods technique and nihilism.
The fate of EJ character in Eumeswil novel shows clearly what the author thought about this kind of political path. Maybe it was at that time more a reference to far right and far left Euroterrorism very common in the 70's/80's.
This vision is still valid today.
Sorry for my poor english and for my former answer in Italian.
Best regards to all.
O. Bosc
