Umberto Rossi never wrote anything like that:  he has earned his 
degree with a thesis on a Sf writer, and devoted many hours to his 
homeworks (reading Sf).

However, I understand it is a matter of automated reply header...

...and I absolutely agree with your hint at Gibson.  And yes, 
portable means of communication and stuff like that were part of the 
basic Sf imagery of the 50s, maybe even the 40s--together with 
zap-guns and flying saucers.
