>BTW, let's also not forget that the Freikorps were extremely brutal in >their indiscriminate political violence suppressing left-wing >insurrection. Following the Baltic expedition they were also involved in >politically motivated murder and terrorism. JK, Thanks for your comments on the Freikorps. Brutality and extremism of the left might have forced hard reaction. The individual soldiers might not have felt they fought for democracy but their action nevertheless saved Germany from being the second country to fall under the domination of Marxist-Leninists after the October 1917 coup d'etat in Russia. It is true that individual members of the Freikorps participated in assassinations of prominent leftists. But these were individual action not necessarily condoned by Freikorps leadership. As for terrorism it would be interesting to learn mre about Freikorps "terrorism". Finally underneath is a list of Freikorps leaders who fell victim to Hitler's massacres in 1934: Karl Ernst Edmund Heines Oskar Stable August Schneidhuber Hans Peter von Heydebreck Hans Hayn Fritz von Krausser Werner von Fichte plus to that were executed as a result of their involvement in 20th of July: Wilhelm Canaris Wold Heinrich Hekdorf It is of value to keep a balanced view. Best wishes Bertil Haggman
