Perhaps we should point out to those new on the list that there is a direct connection between Juenger's "On the Marble Cliffs" and Philip K. Dick's "The Man in the High Castle." See my following contribution, originally posted to the list on January 6, 1998: ---------------------------------------- Here's an interesting detail: Science Fiction writer Philip K. Dick, of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" (i.e."Blade Runner") fame, dedicated the German edition of his book "The Man in the High Castle" (which won him the highest SF honour, the Hugo Award in 1963) to Ernst Juenger. The dedication reads: "An Ernst Juenger fuer 'Auf den Marmorklippen'" ["To Ernst Juenger for 'On the Marble Cliffs,'" RBR] and can be found on p. 5 of the paperback edition of "Das Orakel vom Berge" (Bergisch Gladbach 1989, ISBN 3-404-24117-7). The dedication sounds somewhat cryptic, but if you're familiar with both "High Castle" and "Marble Cliffs" you know how it's meant. ------------------------------------ Regards, Richard Brem
