Excellent idea to try starting a simultaneous group reading and discussion
of a shorter essay or story of EJ's via the internet, as Abdalbarr
suggests! May I propose picking Die Schere to begin with? Reasons: it is
conveniently structured in relatively brief aphorisms; it is a typical
Spätwerk in which the meaning is often compressed into images and allusive
phrases which require and provoke comment and elucidation by referring to
other EJ texts and to the collective knowledge and wit of the list members.
If Die Schere has not yet been translated into English this might be an
additional advantage: our work should provide prolegomena helpful to future
translators.
