Most of the german people know only the tv-pictures about E.J., walking together
with Mitterand and
Kohl in Verdun. But ask those people which books of E.J. they read. I had a few
discussions about
E.J. since yesterday. The tenor was always "I don´t like him". But none read any
of his books:
"Afrikanische Spiele ? Subtile Jagden ? Die Zwille ? Never heard about those".
"Auf den Marmorklippen ? Das abenteuerliche Herz ? Capricios ? Eine gefaehrliche
Begegnung ? Negative !"
"In Stahlgewittern ? No, I read Remarque". (Well, at least one association !)
E.J. wrote once about the "querelles allemandes" - where was it ? Maybe
"Annaeherungen" ?
E.J. will furtheron stay like a rock in a world of fast-food literature.
("Gibraltar - wie ein Fels in der Brandung" / In Stahlgewittern).
