Sorry to differ, I was in the Navy - aka La Armada:-).
But I think is not the point to have belonged to nations army -
Bierzo mountain people its well known as great "guerrilleros" -
since Roma´s invasion, Goth´s and other nordic invasions,
Napoleon and even in civil war - maquis; and they have never
belong to armys, they were more like waldwangers. What I think its
EJ differential point, its that he integrate not only eros but polemos
also. This is a great error of pacifists. Life is composed by polemos
and eros. Warrior first duty is to reconduct fight to and into human
limits - and to always maintened it into them. But sure EJ will say
it better than me - and this goes also to Roberto Haab and his
erroneous understanding of which is soldiers duty:
Allow me to reach a conclusion: Time of enmity between our two
countries is come to an end, an enmity in which we were educated
very soon. i have never accepted it. Its true that singular person
cannot elude himself the great conflicts and that, obviously, he
participates in them with his people and between his people. But,
its always posible to preserve simpathy, like it happened between
Fiedrich the Great and voltaire, thought this cames harder than in
Baroque. "Adversaire", if circusntances order that, but not
"ennemi". "Agon", but not "polemos".
Humans learn little of history - otherwise we will be spare of
much things, WWII is one of them. However, it seems now we have
a model.
If we think on the problems that overburden us, it raises the next
question: shouldn´t we begin in a planetary way now, in the place
such surroundings and sacrifices have taken us?

Here I agree John and EJ, its time to motherlands and great
spaces. I am Berciano and European long before I´m Spanish -
though I love Spain and its diverse cultures.
About the bilingual question, I know EJ list must be english-german
- I am doing "acceleratto" efforts to learn german, I was only asking
R. Haab - as swiss- if he could write his asserts also in other
language - italian suits for me:-).
Best regards
roberto.
