May I suggest we suspend debate on the Widerstand issue for the time being. Why? 1. Both sides have made their points at length. 2. No new points are being made. 3. The debate is threatening to turn into a dreaded internet flame war, and I do not want to see that. Neither does anyone else, really, as it's completely pointless. If we want to continue talking about this issue, I would suggest following up Jan's suggestion and examining "Die Friede" - we would then be focussing on a text. Much more my cup of tea than passing judgement on people, anyway. Whilst I very much welcome controversy on the list and passionate debate - and indeed, was surprised it has taken so long to happen - let us conduct it in a fashion which is appropriate. So, please, no name calling, no crass oversimplifications. Lets keep a healthy respect for each other's right to hold their own opinion and be prepared for that opinion to be challenged. I reserve the right to turn the list into a moderated one because I don't want to have to read a whole load of mail brimming with vitriol and lacking substance. I would be loathe to, however, because it smacks of censorship and because of the workload involved - and the list would be dependent on my access to the Net. No problem in Oxford, but when I'm not here... Ok, that'll do from me on this subject, I hope. I hate playing class teacher, it doesn't become me :-) Best wishes from Oxford, John ============================================================================== John King St. John's College GB - Oxford OX1 3JP ==============================================================================
