_Sie_ is apparently meaning the remark of Wilhelm, but should then be
_Es_(=sein Urteil) - grammatically the reference is to _die ganze
Richtung_.

Walter, I suggest the following solution:
 I read  "sie" as referring to "Anschauung". Wilhelm's view was based less
on aesthetics, i.e., on his opinions  about what was beautiful and what was
not, rather than on his instinct as to who was his political ally und who
was his enemy in political matters. Does this convince you?
I would like to add that I appreciate greatly your translation work . More
than once it has helped me to decide some tricky question of how to
understand the Master. And I am very happy about our team work on Die
Schere which, though we might not be able to decipher all difficult
passages, surely is a wonderful training in penetrating deeper into the
complexities of EJ's philosophy.
