The passage in question is "Sie [Künstler, die ihre Aufgabe überleben] gleichen dann pensionierten Beamten, die ihren Neigungen nachgehen, wie Rimbaud dem
Geldverdienen und Turner dem Trunk" Paris, 19. Februar 1943 (SW III, 12)

"Geldverdienen" does have a slightly negative connotation in German, at least for some people. It is a bit like "prostitution" or "selling out" at least. And
probably for Jünger, too, who never had to "work" in the classical sense.
