No, Paths of Glory is more related to Barbusse, I suspect.  Remember it deals 
with war on the French side.  The film was not shown in France for 10 years, it 
seems.  As for FMJ, the Joker is not that detached in the end, i.e. whe he has to 
kill the Vietnamese girl.  Astounding meditation on war and violence and evil.  
But a bit far from EJ.

Btw, there's a powerful ironic statement in the ending of the film.  The squad of 
Marines, of killing machines, is almost decimated by a single sniping girl.  It is a 
devastating comment n the macho ideology the Marines have been taught by Sgt. 
Hartman duting the training course.
