Dear Junguerites > [2] This is an allusion to an image found elsewhere in EJ's writings in more > graphic detail. Modern humanity, once embarked on the train of scientific and > technological progress, finds itself racing towards the abyss of a final > catastrophe. Even for those few who have not only realized the danger but are > willing to start a new life style it would be suicide to try to get off the > speeding train whose wheels are getting red hot. It seems that EJ took parts of this imaginery from A. Kubin pictures, specially from "The Man (Der Mensch?(sic:-))" and "Geist des Motorrades". Jose Luis Molinonuevo, the best EJ scholar of Spain, have said beatiful things on this exchange in his mini-essay: "Writing with the eyes: Juenger in the nihilistic pictorical texts of Kubin", published in "Along with Junger" , a compilation of conferences (Junto a Junger, Cruce Ediciones, 1996) Best regards Roberto
