I have my doubts about a formal conversion, but it wouldn't come out of the
blue. Juenger has flirted with Catholicism in the 20s after reading Huysmans
(see "Strahlungen 2": 27.2.45 and "Siebzig verweht 4": 28.6.87 for details).
I would also like to mention his high regard for Leon Bloy (= leading
exponent of the "renouveau catholique") and his close friendship with Carl
Schmitt ("Roman Catholicism and Political Form"). And the characters of
Father Lampros (in "On the Marble Cliffs") and Pater Foelix (in "Heliopolis"
) always seemed to me to be pretty catholic as well.

Perhaps we have to wait till Heimo Schwilk sets it all straight in his
forthcoming biography on EJ.

each: I just turned on myself while Ulrike Meinhof turned it on society." -
