[Juenger-list] What happens to the umlauts in your List mail?

It would indeed be ironic to complain in English about the hegemony in
English, as Andreas suggests. But I didn't mean to. I am glad that we have
this lingua franca of the Internet, I do not mind using it and I bear no
grudge againt those who established its hegemony-with the exception of
complaining about their illiberality towards all those languages [in Europe
alone French, German, all Scandinavian languages, Turkish] that use other
signs or letters than those of the English alphabet.
Thank you, Paul, for pointing out to me that the umlauts in the List archive
become unscrambled as soon as you read them in HTML mode. So my critical
note was much ado about nothing. Nobody will have trouble reading any
umlauts if they are contained in mails sent in HTML and if he has a mail
program that provides HTML format, like Outlook Express or Netscape
Messenger.
Needless to say, I 'll see to it that my future postings will be in HTML.
