Richard, allow a little bit of brainstorming from time to time! (Tempestatibus maturesco) Bertil, please do not be nasty naming such a beautiful city. The theme "growing of the worldstate" and America can be discussed very, very fruitfully. I am sorry that at the moment I do not have the time to answer to John's contribution (which appears a very good beginning to me). We should not refuse other voices, even if there is no direct reference to Juenger. If there are contributions from other parts which fit with Juengers ideas independently, this can be very enlighting just because a new point of view confirms previous topics. For example recently I read an interview book by Ralph Dahrendorf. Italian title: "Dopo la democrazia" = after democracy... It certainly concerns our discussions, if a great sociologist like R.D. affirms that we have already left democracy. Time ago there came a contribution from Belgium: there was also a right-wing political theory website, with an interesting speech of Vladimir Putin (I wish I had this site now, but I didn't find it in the archive, can somebody help me...?). Well, yesterday I had to remember that speech (and the especially the comments of the right-wing intellectual whose name I do not remember now), when the little italian "Condor" (who is about to buy two german tv-stations) proposed to Putin that Russia shall enter in the European Comunity whispering something about the influence of the american jewish comunity on the US-administration. I will not bother you with long quotations of Dahrendorf's book, but this is what actuality is about. And actuality is showing us the meaning of books as Der Weltstaat and Eumeswil, exactly as these books show us the mosaic of which Dahrendorf's book is one tessera. Juenger's work is like a map of the earth. Let's continue to read it together. Best regards, Martin
