mailing list archive - Rock Fortress Nora (Cappadocia)

Putting a question of detail on the list I was wondering if
the rock castle Nora in Cappadocia (Turkey) has been
identified. This "Felsenburg" (rock fortress) seems to be the=20
model for the fortress of the Condor in _Eumeswil_ (title
probably after Eumenes, a Greek commander of Macedonian
forces after the empire of Alexander the Great collapsed.
Eumenes had to retreat to his rock fortress Nora, where he
was captured (320 BC?).

The Macedonian Silver Shields, that he commanded at a
crucial moment in the post-Alexander wars, abandoned him,=20
causing the capture and killing of Eumenes, who had retreated
to rock castle Nora.

With Juengerian wishes

Bertil
