A recent (February 2001) article on Ernst Juenger can be found at www.linguafranca.com titled "Marathon Man". It contains reviews of _Die Glassbienen_ in English (The Glass Bees), Neaman's _A Dubious Past_ and Nevin's_ Ernst Juenger and Germany_. The mobile glass bees is of course a prognosis of EJ from 1957 of what is in full swing today. Zapparoni had worldwide dominance of movies, household gadgets, and military secrets due to his "liliputrobots" in the book. As you know I have written extensively on this list from to time on this particular prognosis of EJ. In Starck's fine collection _Titan Technik_ from last year (in which of course Olaf's contribution stands out) too little, in my opinion, was devoted to the question, especially its military side but also the civilian. One has to proceed to a footnote in Harro Segeberg's contribution to find a mention of "Liliput-Robots" and a reference to an article in Time Magazine from 1996. Well, much has happened and is happening in the military field. Even the Chinese are following this area closely. I am referring to an article by Major General Sun Bailin of the Chinese Academy of Military Science (also from 1996). Sun writes already then of Ant Robots, which can be controlled by sound. = They can be used to creep into an enemy's vital equipment and lurk there for as long as several decades. They can be stored there in peacetime and then remotely activated in wartime. There are even plans to make small "blood vessel submarines" that can undertake patrol missions within complex human circulatory systems. Likewise they could be used as weapons. Of course minirobots have their role in attacking the enemy's electrical systems using an aircraft, for instance, to desperse these microscale = electromechanical system in the vicinity of the target. This can of course also be made via computers. Nanosatellites, small satellites that can be spread en masse over a=20 battlefield or across the earth to advance surveillance of every territory. These are only a few examples in the military field but many of these systems can of course also be used in the civilian field. And, not to = forget, mush has happened in the last five years to advance the research and possible production already. Me thinks this is an area of EJs works that should be further explored = more in detail as the extensive research on Juenger's works continue into the = 21st century. Finally a thank you to Guenter and Tobias, who are doing so much to keep this list live and informative. With juengerian greetings Bertil
