Dear list members! Yes, I agree with René. >Any verbal indication of subjectivity is excluded Noone can go beyond subjectivity. What we can try is Annäherung. Nearing, coming close to truth, approximation. Annäherung distingushes Sokrates from Gorgias of Lentini, the sicilian champion of relativism and inventor of the logos pharmacon. Well, J's logos is a good pharmacon in the sense of Sokrates. His subjectivity is a good example of how we can get near to truth. Man remains the measure of everything. The question whether truth has to be considered "objective" or "intersubjective" cannot have a ultimate rational conclusion and leads to pointless conclusions. There is a point where one has to jump into perception of truth and beauty. There is no way to prove scientifically that Mozart's music is beautiful or that Schönberg's relation to disharmony is harmonious and that both are an expression of beauty and truth captured by an act of perception. "Wenn ihrs nicht fühlt, ihr werdets nicht erjagen, wenn es nicht aus der Seele dringt und mit urkräftigem Behagen die Herzen aller Hörer zwingt." Faust 534-537 "Give up pursuing eloquence, unless you can speak as you feel! One's heart must pour it out, with primal power adress one's hearers and compel them with an art deeper than words.
