ernst jünger in cyberspace

mailing list archive - Fear

Hy folks,
I´m new here and I´m very surprised by the level of yours contributions. I
haven´t been able to read all the material I´ve download, but I would like
to make you a question. Have you analysed Jünger´s woks in terms of fear?
My believe is fear ( the idea and also the experience) is very important
to understand Jünger´s thought. Not only fear but fight against fear. You
only have to read the first lines of Die Zwille " Every morning fear ..."
to realize how important is fear in his work.In the first chapter of
Afrikanische Spiele we can also read something like this " my own fear is
my stongest enemy". His Journals and essays are plenty of allusions,
specially fear of death. In Der Waldgang#13( a book I consider essential to
understand his thought) we read " Fear is one of symptomes of our time",
and in #14( a chapter of extraordinary importance) EJ continues talking
about fear . Obviously, EJ is talking about an inner fair, a fear that born
in our soul. As Günter said in his last contribution, EJ talks to the
initiated, a fear that is known by initiated, by people who has the
intuition of nihilism and has experienced the borders of Reality.
On the other hand, in the same #14, EJ says " It´s important to know that
it´s impossible to anhilitate fear" ( I´m sorry but my translation is very
bad). My point is the victory against fear could be the new inner freedom
that EJ always talk about. It would be the end of our own path, and here
linking with yours lasts mails DIE SCHERE#20 " The end [of a path] is
always possible, everywhere ..."We´re walking with our freedom, and we´ll
be free when we realize that freedom is in us, whith us, when we could
achieve the victory against fear. That point is the end of the path, and
the beginning of joy.
I think we will misunderstand his work if we don´t take in consideration
the fear.
Well, I´m sorry for my english, but I do my best. Hope I´ll improve with
your help,

Best Regards from Mallorca,
Dani
