Gut ist es, wenn eine angenehme Vermutung, etwa die einer Goldader,
bestätigt wird. Die Bestätigung kann sogar die Vermutung übertreffen:
Kolumbus wollte nur einen Seeweg erkunden und fand eine neue Welt.

Amerika war vorhanden. Anders steht es mit der ultraphysischen Erkundung;
vor ihr wird gewarnt. Unsichtbares in diesem Sinne braucht nur wenig
entfernt zu sein; es wohnt im Haus. Schon vom Umgang mit Geistern, wie er
nicht selten vorzukommen scheint, hört man mehr Unangenehmes als
Erfreuliches.

Bei großen Begegnungen sind wir auf Mittler angewiesen, die ebenso selten
wie andererseits die falschen Propheten häufig sind. Ihr Auftreten erinnert
an die Schöpfung: es ist nicht nachzuprüfen, hinterläßt aber gewaltige
Spuren in der Zeit. Es ist nicht geschichtlich, sondern geschichtbildend.
Obwohl die Kulte Völker und selbst Kulturen überleben, sind auch sie dem
Wandel unterworfen, weil keine der Jenseitsvorstellungen genügt.

It is good when a pleasant assumption, for instance the existence of a gold
vein, turns out to be correct. The corroboration may even prove taller than
the assumption: Columbus only had in mind to explore a sea route and found a
new world.

America was a palpable part of our reality. It is a different story with
ultra-physical exploration; we are told to steer clear of it. What is
invisible in this particular sense may not be far away; it dwells in the
home. Even about contacts with spirits, which seem to happen not too rarely,
you hear more disagreeable than pleasant details.

With great encounters we are dependent on mediators, which are as rare as,
on the other hand, false prophets are widespread. Their appearance reminds
of the Creation: it cannot be proved, but it leaves tremendous traces in
temporal history. It is not historic but is the origin of history.
Though cults survive nations and even cultures, they, in their turn, are
liable to change because no conception of the Beyond will ever satisfy.
