some of which has found its way into the list of sources on the website.
Everyone will no doubt be pleased to know that I am starting to learn SQL
and PHP3 to produce responses to specific queries about works on and by
EJ. But it will take a while. And it might even have pictures in it and
allow people to add their own comments... I will also be talking to our
librarians here about how to develop a systematic categorisation - the one
I have been using on my Papyrus Dos database is of little use to myself
and even less to anyone else.

The Humanities Computing Unit in Oxford has expressed an interest in
hosting it, so I won't have to go hunting ISPs which offer database
connectivity for a hefty fee.

I expect that I will ask users to register themselves and "sign" a
declaration with respect to intellectual property rights, etc. And that
we'll have the opportunity for selected people to have write permissions
to add new items authoritatively through web based forms. I'm also
thinking of putting all the link URLs into the database and more besides.

If it all works, I'll make the SQL and code available to any similar
projects. But it'll be a while yet as I learn how to recompile apache
modules and lots of fun tech stuff. And now I've got Oracle and COld
Fusion to play with at work (yes, work)...

No problem here. But seriously, a database can collect anything and still
produce highly usable results using selective searchs. But a 1000 page
book starts getting unwieldy and can't be updated frequently or
interactively.

Enough musings from web guru land ;-)

Best wishes from a hot and sunny Oxford,
