Tobias,
Perhaps below is the letter I need. Do you know where
I can find it? Date? Book? etc.
The secondary source to which I referred is a newpaper
article in the Chicago Times, dated May 1, 1994, by
Thomas McGonigle. He wrote that "a letter has come to
light, signed by Hitler himself, forbidding any
harassment of Junger by the Gestapo." He fails to cite
his source, of course.
Thanks for the help.
Todd

On the other hand: "unwiderlegt" (irrefuted) is the
story about a conversation between Hitler and Goebbels
(reported by NSKK-man Huehnlein, who participated in
that meeting) on EJ's "Marmor-Klippen" novel ("On The
Marble Cliffs"; 1939): Goebbels tried to convince the
Fuehrer of "strafverfolgen" (punishing) EJ. Hitler
answered: "Lasst mir den Juenger in Ruhe, der hat
grosse Verdienste" (leave EJ in peace, he has great
merits).
