Every time I look at a reproduction of Thomas Cole's=20 painting The Titan's Goblet of 1833 (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) I come to think of Ernst Juenger and the Titans. Association also drifts to the ON tree of life, Yggdrasil. Cole might have seen a picture in The Edda Edition by Icelander Finnur Magnusson in 1825 showing a goblet on an ocean surrounded by mountains and fields. But also Lake Albano with Castel Gandolfo might have inspired Cole. Anyway, very Juengeresque.
