Hierzu drei Gegensätze, in denen sich die Schere einerseits ihrer Funktion, 
andererseits ihrer reinen Potenz nähert :

                     Prognose / Prophetie
                     Television / Telepathie
                     Erinnerung / Zeitsprünge

_Prognose_ ist die Vorbeurteilung von Entwicklungen; sie stützt sich auf 
Tatsachen. "An der Prognose erkennt man am sichersten den erfahrenen und 
umsichtigsten Arzt." Dasselbe gilt ganz allgemein für jeden Haushalt und 
jedes Amt, von einem Tag zum anderen und über große Zeiträume hinweg.

_Prophetie_ gründet sich weniger auf Tatsachen als auf Eingebung und 
Erscheinungen. Beide sind schwer nachzuprüfen, rufen aber sowohl im Leben des 
Einzelnen wie in der Entwicklung von Staat und Gesellschaft ungemeine 
Veränderungen hervor. Man könnte an ein Element denken, das nur selten in 
voller Kraft die Zeit verändert, doch das in Spuren jedem Charakter und jedem 
Programm unentbehrlich ist. Sonst würde die Geschichte wie ein Uhrwerk 
ablaufen. "Savoir pour prévoir" (Comte).

_Television_ als die optische Überwindung von Distanzen hat seit der 
Erfindung des Fernrohrs fast unbegrenzte Fortschritte gemacht. Wir können 
auch das Hören einbeziehen - etwa beim Telefonat mit einem Partner, der auf 
dem Bildschirm erscheint. Die Gegenwart des Entfernten wird bereits sehr 
stark. Sie wird noch stärker, wenn der Partner gestorben ist. Das Lichtbild 
zieht ihn aus Staub und Asche heran. Wir könnten mit ihm ein Gespräch führen, 
das ad hoc vorbereitet ist - etwa über die Trostgedanken des Boethius. 

Eine unserer "möglichen" ist die magische Welt. Hier würde Endgültiges 
drohen. Ein Zugang führt über die psychogene Ausrüstung; auch hier werden 
Prothesen geplant. Uralt ist der Weg über die Pharmaka.

_Telepathie_ ist die unmittelbare Wahrnehmung von Ereignissen und Personen 
über beliebige Entfernungen hinweg. Anklänge finden sich in der bekannten 
Tatsache, dass Ehepaare am Frühstückstisch unvermutet auf denselben Gedanken 
kommen, aber auch in der Abmeldung von Toten, von der oft berichtet wird. Die 
Mutter des Matrosen erwacht, während ihr Sohn auf der anderen Seite des 
Planeten ertrinkt. Die telepathische Begabung scheint früher weit verbreitet 
gewesen zu sein. Sie ist bis in die Gegenwart zur unmittelbaren Orientierung 
benutzt worden - so im Indien der Kolonialzeit und bei Fahrten unter der 
polaren Eisdecke.

Im _Zeitsprung_ überspringt die Wahrnehmung Abschnitte der meßbaren Zeit. 
Insofern ist er von der Prophetie zu unterscheiden, denn der Prophet sieht, 
ohne sich zu bewegen, Zukünftiges voraus. Beim Vorgesicht dagegen bewegt sich 
der Wahrnehmende im Zukünftigen; er nimmt an ihm teil.

Wenn daher der Prophet von seiner Schau berichtet, ist mit Irrtümern zu 
rechnen, wie sie großen Entfernungen anhaften. Ähnlich dem Astrologen ist der 
Prophet zuverlässiger in weiten Zusammenhängen als im Detail. Das Klima der 
Jahrhunderte ist ihm gemäßer als das der Wohnstube.

Was dagegen aus der Vorschau des Zeitsprunges berichtet wird, ist 
unumstößlich und unveränderlich wie alles bereits Geschehene; es ist 
_Erinnerung_. Bedeutende Ereignisse werden kaum Wahrgenommen oder nur in 
Einzelheiten oder Nebendingen gesehen - nicht der Krieg, sondern die Helme 
der Kürassiere, die am Hof vorbereiten. Das Kind folgt ihnen mit den Augen, 
halb verwundert, halb erschreckt. Das Tor des Friedhofes ist eingestürzt - 
nicht durch ein Unwetter der Zukunft, sondern durch ein bereits vergangenes. 
Nebensächliches ist auch die Forelle über der Brust des ertrunkenen Bruders 
oder die Nachlässigkeit des Totengräbers während der eigenen Beisetzung. Das 
ist ein Handgeld zum entrée.

Alles trifft ein - doch nicht wegen der strengen Notwendigkeit des 
Schicksals, wie sie selbst Schopenhauer annahm, sondern aus dem einfachen 
Grunde, weil es bereits geschehen ist.

Am Geschehenen ist nichts zu ändern, wohl aber am Zukünftigen. Daher ist das 
Amt eines Propheten nicht nur ein mantisches, sondern zugleich ein 
pädagogisches. Das Orakel bleibt zweideutig.

In addition to the foresaid three contrasting pairs can be set where the 
shears approach on one side their function, on the other their potential:

    prognosis / prophecy

_Prognosis_ is the forecast of developments, based on facts. "By his 
prognosis, the wary and experienced doctor is most surely recognized." The 
same goes commonly for any other household or office, for those from one day 
to the other and for those covering long ranges of time.

_Prophecy_ is less based on facts, more on intuition and visions. Both are 
difficult to verify, but are the cause of bold changes both in the life of 
the individual and in the evolution of state and society. One could think of 
an element which only seldom changes the time with its full power, but has to 
be necessarily present in traces in every character and in every concept. 
Otherwise history would unwind like a clockwork. "Savoir pour prévoir" 
(Comte).

_Television_ as the optical overcoming of distances has made almost unlimited 
progress since the invention of the telescope. We can include the hearing 
also - like when telephoning with a partner who appears on the screen. The 
presence of the distant person already becomes very strong. It gets even 
stronger when the partner has died. The photo-image pulls him close from dust 
and ashes. We can have a conversation with him that was ad hoc prepared - 
maybe on Boethius thoughts on soothing.

One of our _possible_ worlds is the magical one. Here finalities would 
threaten. One access leads through the psychogene equipment, here also 
prosthesises are in preparation. A very old access is the one through drugs.

_Telepathy_ is the direct perception of events and persons across any 
distance. Hints to this are found in the known fact that couples at the 
breakfast table simultaneously have the same thought cross their minds and 
also in the signing off of dying people often recorded. The mother of a 
sailor awakes while her son is drowned on the other side of the planet. The 
telepathic talent seems to have been widely spread in former times. It was 
used for direct orientation until the present days - like in colonial India 
and at voyages under the polar icecap.

In the _time-jump_ the  perception overleaps sections of the measurable time 
and has in so far to be discerned from prophecy. The prophet sees future 
events beforehand without moving himself. In the second sight the perceiving 
person participates, he takes part in the future events.

If thus a prophet reports his seeings, errors have to be accounted for, just 
as they adhere to all long distances. Similar to the astrologer, the prophet 
is more reliable in big coherences than in tiny details. The climate of 
centuries is more fit to him than that of the living-room.

What is reported from the pre-vision of the time-jump is unalterable like 
everything that has happened - it is _remembrance_. Important events are 
hardly perceived or only seen in their side-effects and acompanying details - 
not the war but only the helmets of the cavalry riding by are seen. The child 
follows them with his eyes, half astonished, half scared. The gate of the 
cemetary has collapsed, not through a future storm, but through one that had 
already taken place. Of minor importance is the trout  over the breast of the 
drowned brother or the carelessness of the grave digger at the own burial. 
This is a handsel for entry.

Everything happens just as it was seen - but not because of a strict 
necessity of fate as even Schopenhauer supposed, but for the simple reason 
because it had already happened.

What happened cannot be altered, but the future can. Therefore the office of 
a prophet is not only a mantic one, but at the same time paedagogical. The 
oracle stays ambiguous.

So these definitions set the terminology straight and sum up what was said in 
the sections before. I find interesting the concept of the time-jumps 
revealing cracks in the course of time that can be jumped through. Surely 
something stock exchange brokers would find extremely helpful :-)

I hope this list only smells funny but is not dead yet, there are almost 
three hundred sections in total to Die Schere alone - ja, ja, der Ernst des 
Lebens...
