Problems with SCHERE #41

Walter, 

Thanks for the push you gave the SCHERE project with your translation! Just 
hours after I read it I got from Gary Kern his polished version of my rough 
translation of #41 I had sent to him a while ago. This difficult text deserves 
it to have several translators working on it! So I post it as well, also in lieu 
of my notes which are still in the making. 

Back in August you asked a question about the role of the shears/scissors in 
this particular text. I had unusual problems explaining it in my notes, so I 
asked René de Bakker about it, and his answer was very helpful. So I hope I can 
answer your question in my forthcoming notes. 

As to your question why we translated "Wüste" as "wilderness": EJ seems to imply 
more than just a place where there is lots of heat and sand and no water; so in 
order to convey also the undertones of spiritual solitude and loneliness Gary 
suggested the term the King James version of the Bible uses where Luther 
translates "Wüste" (e.g. "The voice of one crying in the wilderness" Matth. 
3,3), and I felt that was a good idea. 

I am glad that we are doing real team work now on the SCHERE project! Und so 
fortan!
